Coming Soon!

Here is just a taste of what we have coming up soon!

IN JUNE, we have the release of two extremely exciting films we at The Picturehouse have been eagerly awaiting. First is "Belle", the second film from Amma Asante on the other side of the camera. Matthew Goode (A Single Man) and Tom Felton (Harry Potter) lead this true story of an illegitimate mixed race daughter of a Royal Navy Admiral who is raised by her aristocratic great-uncle. Coming early June to The Picturehouse, Aberystwyth.

IN LATE June we'll be showing "Chef", one of those rare independent films with a cast that would make any blockbuster pale in comparison, thanks mostly to the creative control extercised by it's writer, star and director: Jon Favreau. This heavyweight of the independent world follows the life of Favreau's chef who loses his restaurant job starts up a food truck in an effort to reclaim his creative promise, while piecing back together his estranged family. Co-starring John Leguizamo (Moulin Rouge), Scarlett Johansson (Under the Skin), Dustin Hoffman (Stranger than Fiction), Sofia Vergara (Modern Family) and Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man), it's our must see feel good film of the summer.

"Cold in July" features Dexter's Michael C. Hall and Sam Shepherd (Mud) as two fathers pitted against each other in revenge who must band together to uncover a darker truth. For a summer thriller, look no further than "Cold in July" at The Picturehouse, Aberystwyth, coming late July, where hopefully, it won't be too cold.

ROBERT Pattinson (The Twilight Saga, Cosmopolis) has kept relatively quiet since his on screen love affair with a vampire ended in summer 2012 but he's back with a bang in August with "The Rover". Also starring Guy Pearce (Breathe In, Prometheus), this adaptation of a book by Joel Edgerton about a loner who tracks the gang that stole his car from a desolate town in the Australian outback with the forced assistance of a wounded guy left behind in the wake of the theft will pack a punch to keep you going until next summer. Coming mid-to-late August at The Picturehouse, Aberystwyth.

POLISHING off our summer basket of Independent films will be Mad Men's, Jon Hamm-packed film "Million Dollar Arm" following Hamm's Major League Baseball's unconventional recruitment strategy to get talented Asian cricket players in to MLB. Look out for this in late August/early September.

ANOTHER star-studded line up graces our shores from the US, "Palo Alto" but this time from the adaptation of a set of short stories written by James Franco (127 Hours, Lovelace). This dark drama centered on a group of teens with a penchant for finding trouble also stars Emma Roberts (The Art of Getting By, It's Kind of a Funny Story), Val Kilmer (Heat, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) and Chris Messina (Argo, The Newsroom). Franco recently found himself in some hot water after texting 15 year old - something he does in this film. Was it genuine or some weird publicity stunt? Who knows, maybe coming to watch it in September at The Picturehouse will shed a little more light on the matter.

INDEPENDENT comedies rarely come as slapdash and hilarious as "Let's be Cops" looks. Starring New Girls' Jake Johnson and Damon Wayons Jr (Our favourite Wayans brother here at The Picturehouse) it seems the comedic chemistry isn't unique to the TV screen. The story follows Johnson and Wayons' two struggling pals as they dress as police officers for a costume party and become neighborhood sensations. But when these newly-minted "heroes" get tangled in a real life web of mobsters and dirty detectives, they must put their fake badges on the line. Needless to say, hilarity ensues. Keep your funny bones peeled for September here at The Picturehouse.
